Internal Email

Hi all, copy of an internal email to the Pacific Spaceflight team — a look under the hood you might say!

RE Open Work Hours, none today, but tomorrow (Sun) I will decide noonish. Today I was at a Faculty Retreat meeting and I am burnt out socially. Tomorrow perhaps can do a few things. Number 1 on my list is remove both thigh ports (suit gas exhaust on L leg and manual suit pressure release on R leg), patch these through-holes, and try to get both of these functions fitted to just one fitting on the chest. We have to get rid of the thigh ports b/c in the seated position they press so hard on the leg that they don’t ditch pressure properly. Putting them on the chest, and consolidating from two to one through-fitting, is going to be great. I think in one fitting I can get in comms, a spare data cable, coolant in/out lines, temp and humidity meter lines, and suit gas out as well as a suit gas out to a manual dump valve for emergency suit pressure control. I am seriously considering drilling a hole in the helmet and installing the overpressure valve there, that will simplify a lot of things and get that little demon away from the fitting, where it is constantly banged and abused (our old overpressure valve has been damaged by such ‘workaday bangs’).

I have been ‘sitting on’ cutting the bladder for the Plasma Suit for a long time. I’ve actually cut and sewn three so far, but each has had problems. I have to remind myself sometimes that such delays aren’t a result of being lazy; in fact I am always thinking, always working, even if not cutting/sewing. In the past few weeks of this ‘not doing the Plasma Suit Cut’ I have actually thought through a lot of its sizing issues and I think tomorrow’s cut and seam will be the one that gets it.

Will post open hours for tomorrow just after noon, tomorrow. Regards CMS”
